A unique Victorian-inspired home for a cultured, intellectual client.
This heritage-listed terrace in Surry Hills is part of a row of Victorian homes, showcasing its rich historical character, albeit marred by some contemporary additions. The client’s vision was to restore the residence to its original Victorian splendor, down to the finest details. Achieving this required extensive research into Victorian architecture, as well as numerous visits to reclaimed materials warehouses, demolition yards, and antique auction houses to source authentic crafts and recycled materials for the renovation. Inspiration was drawn from European residences and galleries, aiming to authentically reconstruct, preserve, and enhance the Victorian aesthetic.
The goal was to create a timeless home that would serve as a backdrop for the client’s extensive art collection and personal treasures gathered from travels abroad. Every element, from built-in joinery and plaster details to soft furnishings, lighting, and furniture, was meticulously chosen to create a rich, dramatic visual experience.
