A Victorian terrace reimagined as an artistic fusion of Asian influences and modern design, blending rich cultural elements with timeless elegance.

Description

After years of indecision, the clients sought to transform their terrace into a beautiful and distinctive home. This project involved extensive research into Victorian architecture and the successful restoration of other terraces, drawing inspiration from English terrace renovations to retain and enhance the home’s period charm. Situated in a conservation area, the design had to respect its historical context while adhering to strict heritage guidelines.

The challenge was to delicately balance the preservation of original heritage features, the restoration of lost Victorian details, and the introduction of modern elements to bring the home into the 21st century. Given the home’s dilapidated condition, much of the interior was stripped back, allowing for the creation of a bright, airy space. Skylights, a light-filled stairwell and a sun-drenched dining area were added to merge the old and new, enriching the living experience. The addition of an attic with a master bedroom provides much-needed space. The sophisticated, muted colour palette complements the clients’ personal taste, furniture, and artwork, while the landscaped courtyard offers a verdant oasis that enhances the home’s connection to the urban surroundings.
